Our Story of Service

"Nar Sewa Hi Narayan Sewa Hai"

A legacy of compassion passed down through generations.

How It All Began

The Humble Beginnings (Circa 1950)

The seeds of Sindhu Sewa Samiti were sown in Katni by the visionary Shri Chetandas Ji (Sant Surdas Ji). Alongside R.M.D. Dr. Sindhi Sardar, he began a unique mission of dignity. They would visit Sindhi wedding ceremonies, carrying a small tin collection box (Gullak). To the sound of the rattling tin, they would appeal to the bride’s family, the groom’s family, and the guests to donate toward the upliftment of the poor, the helpless, and the widowed within the Sindhi community.

Sant Surdas Ji Vision

A Vision of Dignity

Sant Surdas Ji’s driving philosophy was simple yet profound: no member of the Sindhi community should ever have to beg or extend their hand in desperation to the general public. He believed the community should look after its own with honor.

Formal Foundation

Inspired by this noble cause, elders such as Dada Varandmal Chandwani, Dada Girdhari Lal Khubchandani, Dada Jairam Das Puruswani, Dada Trilok Chand Rohra, and Namdev Bardane Wale, in collaboration with the Sindhu Naujawan Mandal, formally established the Sindhu Sewa Samiti around 1950.

Growth and Expansion

As the mission grew, the Samiti constructed a dedicated building to provide free shelter to homeless Sindhi families. Additionally, they began a monthly tradition of distributing essential rations to those in need. Due to the increasing number of families requiring aid, Satguru Baba Narayan Shah Ji, in coordination with the Samiti, facilitated a division of responsibilities into two distinct entities: Sindhu Sewa Samiti (serving Katni City) and Shri Baba Madhav Shah Sewa Mandal (serving Madhav Nagar).

The Divine Blessing

"The more you serve and help the poor and downtrodden, the more this Samiti will grow and flourish. Its treasury shall never run dry, for this is a divine task of immense merit (Punya)."

Sindhu Sewa Today

The Samiti Today

Decades later, those words remain an absolute truth. Today, Sindhu Sewa Samiti continues its monthly ration distribution and has expanded its reach by providing financial scholarships to children from underprivileged Sindhi families, ensuring that the flame of service lit by Sant Surdas Ji never fades.
